Donna Calleja

Donna creates paintings that are inspired by her observation of light on local plants, garden flowers, fruit and shells.  Working with the subject of still life allows her to compose light, shape, color and texture with the same approach as an abstract painter.

Her painting process begins with a bold underpainting that defines a composition of light and shadow. With close observation, she adds layers of color to build texture and detail.

"I love the quiet process of seeing the details slowly emerge in my small scale paintings."

Her paintings are created with acrylic paint on panel and mixed media works combine paper, ball point pen and pencil with acrylic paint.

She works from her home studio in Watertown, MA.

See these paintings and more by Donna Calleja until July 31st.
